STOP Cabies from Talking on the phone

TLC should put a small bed in the back so that lazy people can sleep ...make it more confy like your home for $2.50 bucks..

we are all human cabies are not animal that you gona lock them up in a small partitioned area without letting them breath...think about your self when u talk on the phone in public in the train/bus/streets...dont you think u are annoying?? dont u think people ryte next to you are annoyed by you?? 12 hours driving shift is not a joke.. sitting in the same driving sit hour after hour without having any phycical movement is not a joke as you might think....dont bealive me?? try it..drive a yellow cab for atleast 10 hours...you will get what im trying to say... what about when you ride a train? what about when you ride a bus??? can you stop every one  from doing what you dont like?? NO...u are riding a cab for few mins and for few bucks..u dont act like this is your house..u dont act like you own the cab or the cabies...i think if the driver talks on the phone while they driving which is not a big deal..as long as they are not screaming/shouting/yelling....this way they can relife thier pressure by sharing some words with thier fellow drivers or any other person..thats all..they are not planing to do another 9/11..as we all might think.....hey if you wana shut the driver from talkin on the phone i think u shuld shut your self as well from talkin on the phone while riding a cab...how simple is that???

Re: STOP Cabies from Talking on the phone
Hey thats a good topic, I drove a cab for a long time and I talked on the phone. But since I am American it doesnt seem to bother the passengers why because they can understand. It seems to me that it only bothers them when they cant. I think the issue here is that a cabbie becomes an employee of his passenger who by paying for the ride becomes theorically the boss for the duration of the trip. But a driver should be able to use his phone to a certain degree. Not for the entire trip, not loud, and he should take in consideration that it may be rude or annoying to the passenger. But also one should know that an open line of communication has saved the lives of many drivers that were able to to communicate a situation, avoid traffic etc...

Re: STOP Cabies from Talking on the phone

It's just great how the city wants to control our every movement. Doesn't anyone find it just a little tyrannical that you pay half a million dollars for the RIGHT to operate a vehicle, pay taxes on that income and in return you get stuck with a $3000 tracking system that tracks your every movement yet you're unable to use it as a GPS to look up directions you may need while working? Aren't you all tired of these rules that have pushed cabs out of midtown manhattan because of new traffic patterns which means those that work the hotels and theatres in that area will now make less money and now they want to institute new rules which will no longer allow us to have the ability to use a phone in your own "place of business".

As one of the few women drivers that work nights, I've picked up passengers that have made me feel uncomfortable and I HAVE gotten on the phone and stayed on the phone until I"ve dropped off that passenger. I've done this for safety reasons always letting my co-worker I was on the phone with know where I was going and what the person looked like. It hasn't happened often but that person on the other line made me feel more secure. I've used my phone to report accidents to 911 and to call for ambulances for these situations. I've also used it to report "theft of services" from a rider who left without paying.

In addition, as a mother of four children I have the right to have access to INCOMING calls from my home. No one ever knows when and what type of emergency can occur at home and we are not slaves to this city and its passengers. I have had an emergency situation develop at home. My passengers were very understanding and fortunately were heading in the direction of my home so I was able to drop them off before going straight home. I've also had situations where I needed to call for a tow truck, the owner of the cab and even the taxi garage during my tenure as a cabbie. Is the city going to allow those type of calls to be made with their emergency system, I think not. It's not like we have a place to park and make these phone calls either. Will it take the killing of a cab driver to open the eyes of these idiots who sit behind a desk and think of these rules? A killing that could have been avoided with the ability to make an emergency 911 call immediately and not from some idiotic computer system.

Just because I have a cell phone does not mean that I'm on the phone chatting away and ignoring my passengers. I am very proud of the level of customer service I provide to my customers and as a passenger I have gotten into cabs with rude, smelly, nasty and loud cab drivers talking on the phone. But those rude, smelly, nasty and loud cab drivers have the same rights we all do...to have the ability to receive incoming calls..regardless. If the passenger has an issue with the driver then they should have the ability to SPEAK up and ask the driver nicely to get off the phone.

Re: STOP Cabies from Talking on the phone

Listen here and listen good. You are a driver, not a phone rep. When I hire you, I want you to drive, not to be talking on the damn phone. I hired you for the duration of the trip to drive and keep me safe. So, drive and keep me safe. In other words, GET OFF THE DAMN PHONE.

And yes, I am a driver, who has a cell phone. I NEVER use it unless I am pulled over without passengers. And YES, I have NOT TIPPED a yellow cab driver who talked the whole time on the phone. I made it a point to get my 20 cents back from him, and told him that normally I tip 20%- which is true- but since he blabbed the whole time, he only got the meter, and he was lucky to get that.

It is simply RUDE and UNSAFE to be on the phone when you are driving. So SHUT UP AND DRIVE.

Wanna talk on the phone? Become a telemarketer, or stop bellyaching.

Re: STOP Cabies from Talking on the phone

Hi,

The main reason behind all these policies is that TAXI DRIVERS are mainly immigrants from countries like, pakistan, india , bangladesh , nepal and african countries with the exception of a few european immigrants . If the americans would have been driving TAXI CABS the wages would have been much higher and the rules much more relaxed

There is no " unity" amongst the cab drivers . When you are being oppressed historically there is a need for a " revolution" .The cab drivers needs a strong union which acts on behalf of the " cabbies" .

I personally believe that a 12 hour shift is too long for driving and it should be divided into 3 shifts of 8 hours each . The drivers should make the same money that they would be making in a 12 hours shift , The meter should be adjusted accordingly
