WOW!!! That sounds like a very F***ed up and unfair thing to do to a person. they tricked you so they could remove the medallion. but if the medallion is theirs, i'm not sure there's much you can do about it. when i was reading your story, i kept just thinking, "Hire a Lawyer". i don't think the cost of transferring should be paid by you. but once again,  but if the medallion is theirs. i'm not sure there's much you can do. but i only have a year  and a half in the business. maybe you should ask someone  with more experience.

Re: worse time for cabbies

you are not responsible about transfer fees, they are ,because they broke the contract and you didnt, and they must pay you any money damages they caused to you.and to make sure ,try to see your lawer and tlc laws for medallion transfer.they told you to pay the fees because they want to take your deposit you paid when you got the car for the first time.I tell brother, those medallion owner by law have to drive at least 40 hours .grages and brokers have to go to school and learn how to respect drivers and respect this buseniss.now we end up paying 1550 dallars per week .who is in the world have to work 80 hours just to pay rent?? something is wrong with taxi business.i would like to tell all drivers to go out and search for other oportunities ,like truck drives ,electrical ,mecanics ,construction ,restaurant .school buses, parking managers jobs.education jobs too.

this is my story.last year i went to see my familly ,and the first time they saw me they told why you look so sick.I said . taxi kills drives.

i know i have one life wich is not for taxi .i did stop driving since last year, and now i will work as a math teacher ..thanks god ,at least i will never

see the starving face of the brokers and garages.

Good thing taxi2009 will not be an English teacher.

As for your situation 'worse time', open the taxi talk magazine, find a lawyer, and sue the pants off of those clowns for breach of contract, if they did breach the contract, which it sounds like they did.

Good Luck.
