tlc.....cabbies..............nyc..............wake up

Is there any law passed by tlc or state or whatever department saying that only medallions should be issued to the drivers and only taxi drivers who can drive atleast some full time hours. I understand that for the city needs they probably need more drivers or more cars to keep up with it. There should be some scheme that only drivers can have them and iam sure the number of drivers who are out there are outnumbered and if the tlc make sure that all the medallion owners are suppose to drive atleast 35 hours in a week this will drop the price of the medallion and hope there is someone out there for the benefit of the drivers to push this law to be framed and if framed to implement it.

I dont thin tlc is doing anything for the drivers this is the only good thing which tlc can do and make the life of the drivers little better. Now since the medallion is going for something around 600,000 who in the right state of mind will go for this investment. The banks due to the so called credit crunch can only finance 50 % that too to the good credit ratings, now if you have 300,000 bucks do you still want to buy a medallion if the answer is yes than you definitly need some medication or atleast a checkup.

Due to this price hike mess of medallions the lease have gone up to almost 900 dollars a week for the nite and almost 800 for the day driver, now with this lease and gas close to 3 dollars a gallon what the driver will book and what will he put aside for the lease and what for his break and what savings. If you break this up on mondays tuesdays and wednesdays and sunday he is going out for a 12 hour shift for break even and he can make little money on thursday friday and saturday. What a pity.....Alas i cant do anything for the drivers.

The drama at garages is that you have to drive monday and tuesday otherwise you will not have a car for the rest of the week, what a shame.

All these garage owners used to drive taxi years and years ago, some yellow some car service and some limousine. Now they are extracting the blood of yellow cab drivers what a shame so it is hence proved that a cabbie is the worse enemy of another cabbie.

Hope the mayor the commissioner of tlc or some other beaurocrat come up with some better idea for the taxi drivers so that they can work hard in nyc and make some money at the end of the day. Its only possible if the price of medallion comes down and to bring it down you have to legislate some laws where the big corporations and the guys who are holding onto so many medallions have to sell them and it will be owned by only the drivers who drive thats it. I dont know who is going to do it but it will be for the best interest of drivers and for the best interest of this service industry of nyc.

Re: tlc.....cabbies..............nyc..............wake up

waw, thank you very much for the information.of course they have to drive at least 35 or 40 hourse in order to own a medallion, because some people got the money from no where ,and they come over nyc to slave drivers, adn they can not go for sleep and make money ,this is not the hardway we know they should make money in nyc.imagine if this system stays for ever, then the medallion price will reach billion wich makes no logic.tlc laws got to change soon.in today's driving no one can gurranty me my money as a driver, the business is very very bad.or we have to work 50/50/100 with owners .

so the rules to own a medallion is this:

drive at least 35 hours for 10

heath care for drivers.

maximum working hours per day is 12 hours.

deduction for night shift .

retirement in 55 years old of age for drives who worked 20 years full time

and more....

Yes ! You are absolutely right!

Let's do something this how this country was made.

1- Make a petition to have it signed by those in favor of the necessary changes.

2- Once we have the form for the petition we get together or send it by email and start petitioning by having people we know and others who agree ANYONE interested in the change.

3 - then we take it ,mail it, fax it or email it to all our representatives and every other goverment agency that can take to the congress and rep house to make it a law.

Still interested ? Send your emails to mybenti@msn.com

It is not so difficult, believe it or not people want change they just dont know where to start.

You know George Washington did not have the interest of being president others influenced him into it.

The Declaration of Independence was writen by a few men not just one.

Let's stop the money greedy people from telling us how much we earn and how we should live.

We have the right to speak and change things especially if it is part of how we make our living.

If we struggle should it not be for our benefit, why should some live in mantions that we help pay for and we can not eve get health insurance.

Thank you! for reading my response.
