Fare Jumpers

Last week I picked up a ride down near wall street.  A man in casual clothing (jeans and a hooded sweat shirt) entered my cab and asked to go up to midtown.  When I approached his desitnation, I immediatley recognized him as a fare beater who decieved me weeks before.  When I stopped the cab and demanded my fare, he again jumped out without paying.  I believe that repeat offendeders can be stopped if we discuss cases which we have encountered in the past to avoid certain profiles and individuals.  I know that there are many news cab drivers out there who can learn from our experiences and know what to watch out for.  Please share your experience so that we can all learn from this horrible situation.

Re: Fare Jumpers
Hi, question, do you call the cops if you have a fare jumper? Do you have a right to hold them at the scene?

I am a neewbie, part-time driver. Let me tell you what happened. I had a woman swipe a credit card and the CC machine came up with transmission error. She then hopped out, and ran up the block. I stopped her but she refused to come back and said thats my problem? All of the other CC transactions worked perfectly that day.

I also thought about taking a picture of her with my cell.

Re: Fare Jumpers

Fare jumps are on the rise, you are not alone with that! Unfortunately, cabdrivers won't report it to the police! Some driver may tell it to their friends, but many of them won't say anything about it. They feel ridiculed! Here is some helpful advice! Greet your passenger, communicate with them! Ask them how pay the cab fare, with cash or by C.Card? Observe his or her reaction! Do you have money to pay the cab fare? You may ask to pay up-front if the rider look suspicious!  Furthermore, we need Cab Security Camera in the cabs! Unfortunately, 99% of the cabs don't have any security cameras! We need to demand it from the TLC! Let's hear from YOU, how to deal with cab fare jumpers! Do not hesitate to do that! YOU may have a better solution! Let us know!
