new drivers

Why is it hard for new drivers to get cab to rent it from the garages? Only openings they have it is on Sunday. Does that mean new drivers have no hope in getting any shifts. It is really frustrating and is very sad that it adds insult to an injury when you have been recently laid off and no one is hiring. Any suggestion?? anyone??

Re: new drivers

It is hard because 4 times more drivers than cabs. This is very good time for the taxi companies, some of them already charging more to lease the cab. Drivers give extra $5-$20 for the dispatchers to get a cab! These rules not apply to good garages. In addition, the TLC may give a hefty fine for you, and for the dispatcher! Don't take a risk!

Re: new drivers
Call up all the garages on the list on this Website. Everyone will tell you only weekends available.  You need to work like 2-3 weekends with a garage, and then go in and wait during the week.  8 times out of 10, you will get a cab because someone will call out sick.  I got my license about a month ago, and had to do this for 3 weeks.  I just recently got a regular schedule with a garage.  Prior to that, I was bouncing around 3-4 garages a week.  Its hard at first, but after a while you will get one.  Dont give up!
