YELLOW TAXI DRIVERS TIPS DOWN
Put very succinctly, the recent implementation of a 50 cent Taxi Tax on all passengers by the New York State Senate is OUTRAGIOUS, and must be repealed for the sake of all drivers. While there are numerous issues regarding this tax, let’s focus on just a few of the highlights as I see them:First , the NY State Senate was able to ramrod this tax down on the taxi drivers because our industry does not have a strong lobby capability and/or negotiation advantages of such issues via a strong union. Thus, the state senate was able to attempt to balance a never ending failing MTA budget on the backs of the taxi drivers. Second , where is the logic of connecting the MTA workers with taxi drivers! Taxi drivers do not come anywhere close to possessing the salary, security and fringe benefits of the majority of MTA workers; benefits that, I may add, are paid for by taxes and other regulatory budgetary means consistent with existing NY State and City laws. Where is the link or connection between the MTA workforce rules as they relate to the Fair Labor Standards Act and compensation and the taxi driver? MTA workers are paid excellent overtime wages after 8 hours of work in a day. There is no equity between MTA workers and NYC taxi drivers with regard to such regulations and fringe benefits; however, the state senate deemed it appropriate to impose what I believe is an unjust, and in fact an Unconstitutional tax on all NY City taxi passengers to the determent of the taxi driver. I will not repeat here that this tax is taking away deserving tips from the drivers as that has already been expounded upon in earlier issues of the Taxi Insider. Third , this is just the beginning of further Taxi Tax increases in the future. Recently, news reports are identifying additional cost savings and reductions that in all probability will have to be imposed on the MTA because of projected budgetary defects. You can bet that the 50 cent Taxi Tax will be looked at again either now

Re: YELLOW TAXI DRIVERS TIPS DOWN
You are right about tips been down for cabbies. I`ve noticed that not only are tips down but also sometimes passengers fail to notice additional MTA 50 cents and pay you less than what is on the meter. I have had to call passengers back to make em` pay the full meter fair. I had to tell them there`s a 50 cents on the side for the MTA. Sometimes I have to let them go with my 50 cents because I`m blocking traffic. Then some times after turning on the meter, the meter goes off by itself after few blocks or few miles. This started since they add up that MTA stuff. And now also each time you make a mistake of punching the wrong button on the meter and have to anull the transaction it`ll cost you 50 cents as it has haen to me numerous times when I`m trying to start the meter and hit a wrong button.

Re: YELLOW TAXI DRIVERS TIPS DOWN
Hey jcoolman, there's a way to cancel the last ride. It should be on the GPS machine. If you press the main control, there will be several choices, on my machine, I think it's the 4th or 5th choice down. Just click it, follow through and voila, the ride is cancelled.

thanks HardWork, I`ll try to cancell a last trip on the meter to see how it works. I have been paying 50 cents for no reason to the MTA
