I've had a hack license for almost a year now and haven't even driven once because I can't seem to find a garage that wants to hire me because I'm not 25.  I would love to renew my license so that I have it some day but is there any point?  Does anyone know where I might be able to drive weekends being 20 years old?  Willing to go anywhere in the boros here, really need a job!!!

keep trying man, but if i was like you 20... i would go ahead and finish school, this shitiest job you can have, with not enough fares out there, people treat you like shit, no tips, police is all over us now, everytime i see police cars with lights flashing they giving tickets to cabbies, like everybody else is driving any better than us out there!!!! , so my advice to you get edication and be somebody other than f* cabby!!!! good luck

just,burn your hack license asap.dont be lost to this dirty job.go for education and train yourself for something else.dont push your brain into retirement .your are so young you just start opening your eyes,dont go in a wrong way,..

oh my god this is an accident by itself ,a 20 year old man looking for a cab .i dont understand teenagers hate school in america.really to be born pour in usa has become a crime. and not be able to pay for college.your freedom is to get education first,not money.

I have to disagree with the two previous responses. I recently graduated from college -STILL LOOKING FOR A JOB- and driving a cab was the only job that I could hold while in school that offered a somewhat decent salary and flexible hours. If you are courteous, professional, efficient, and you keep a clean cab, then the money will come.

At age 19, I think it's more of an insurance issue with garages, and that's the reason why you're having such a hard time. I think maybe you should let your license lapse until you are 25 or older if you are really serious about driving a yellow cab. Or you can just keep renewing it when you have to if you don't want to go through that whole BS process again.

Go to school at day time and drive cab at night. This is what I am doing from last three yeas, You wanna drive go ahead do it, but make sure you have exit plan otherwise one day you will not want to see yourself in the mirror.

I think you people are missing the boat. This doesn't have anything to do with how much youth hates school and how to treat my customers. I am a full time student, and am looking for a job. Will pretty much take anything, so I decided to get a hack license. Even if I only earn a little bit its more than I'm earning now: $0. The only problem is, it cost me quite a bit to get the license (and I took the minimum 24hr class- nothing else...It would have cost me a lot more if those people conned me into the private tutoring) I get the impression that it would be a horrible job. The TLC is still giving people hack licenses when theres three times as many drivers as there are cabs- they're obviously a bunch of crooks because they know two thirds of the people wont have a chance to use their license but they keep giving them out. But I don't have much of a choice. Most Burger King and Mcdonalds will give you dirty looks if you're the white boy that comes in asking for an application. If they call me for an interview, I get down there and interview and they never call me back. I've probably submitted my resume over 100 times in the past year, but because I didn't graduate from columbia university or NYU, no one wants to hire me.

Trust me, being a part time cab driver wasn't at the top of my list. I've heard horror stories of how hard it is to make money and how the TLC and the police treat drivers like crap, but I have to take whatever I can. Now it's that much more important since I have poured that money into the license. I have to get something out of it...

HI if you are under age i know several garage who give car to under age drivers. In queens tunnel manage ment its on vernon blvd and 44 ave. In manhattan style management 44st bet 10 and 11th ave. Brooklyn M management its on ave M and macdonald ave and i hope you will get a car. And best of luck
