remote control traffic light system

a couple of weeks ago the radio mentioned the mayor is proposing remote control taffic light system to ease up traffic gridlock when necessary and bring in hi-tech business to nyc. I don't know how well it can serve the purpose. I think the major congestion problems is created by below.

1. Has anyone notice the major traffic congestion is created by pedestrian, pedi cab and illegal livery pick up? pedestrian is not suppose to cross when the red hand signal are blinking, this is same a yellow light to turn red. they had their chance to cross ont he green walk signal. they do not even consider to give a chance to any vehical to make the turn, if vehical pass thru a yellow light, and will be summon as steady red. therefore, I think the J-walking law should be fully enforced. this will bring the city a tremendou amount of income each hour.

2. pedi cab breaking every traffic rule in the city, specially twist and turns between cars. it is the most dangerous thing in the city, I understand the remarking on the street lane is try to slow down the traffic on some wild drivers, it is very effective but using human shield to slow down traffic is absoulately dangerous.

3. During rush hour, the yellow cab is out numbered by the livery car service by 2 to 1. this mean there are at least 30,000 livery cab in the city during rush hour whether they pick up or not,

Re: remote control traffic light system
Bloomberg loves technology.  I don't love Bloomberg but this idea does have merit.  They have been playing with this for years now, for instance making the Central Park West lights favor northbound traffic during the evening rush, and it does make things move.  They now want to monitor traffic using sensors, cameras, and EZ pass readers.  The theory is if they detect a jam happening they can then make lights go green or red to try and open it up.  I think it is worth a try though I don't like them reading my EZ pass to detect traffic volume.  Big Brother has already invaded our taxis too much with the GPS.  I keep the EZ pass in that silver bag it came with when I'm not using it.  Then it can't be read.

remote control light doesnot stop pedestrian cross illegally. I do not mind to see the green walk light to be a little longer for pedestrian to cross, but they must prepared to stop cross when red hand signal is flashing. as we all to prepare to stop when see yellow light. some one just have to enforced this on every busy street corner. just like the corner on vesey and church. so car can make their turn.

Re: remote control traffic light system
If the law was enforced, pedestrians would be less likely to cross against the light.  In California pedestrians regularly get tickets for crossing improperly.  I once got a ticket out there for that!   I would like to see the NYPD target just one intersection with enough officers, say 57th & Park, to write 1,000 tickets during just one rush hour to these jerks who run through moving traffic.

If someone could find a high tech way to stop pedestrians from being idiots, Bloomberg would do it in a New York minute.
