Congestion charge..
A dollar surcharge for taxi rides beginning or ending in the zone is proposed by the  Mayor. Day shift divers will be responsible for paying the MTA for an assumed number of zone rides which currently stands at  25..That translates into  day drivers paying  $25 per shift to the City( MTA), regardless of how  many zone rides they actually have, how is that going to effect our industry?... Anyone....

If there is any surcharge then it should be based on ACTUAL rides, not an "assumed" number of rides. Some day shift drivers do not even enter lower Manhattan at all.

The mayor's "congestion pricing" scheme seems dead on arrival now. Hopefully the plan can brought forward again at some point. It sounded to me to be a good proposal to help clear NYC streets of congestion and in doing so would benefit the taxi industry greatly.

It is a good idea if we don't become unpaid tax collectors to the tune of $1 ride.

It might re-surface in the future, w/o the surcharge

I would be against a surcharge in the city for day shift drivers although i prefer working nights.

I must be psychic. Not a congestion charge per se, but still tolls over the East River Bridges are basically a done deal. I hope cabs are free, as was floated in the original plan, but I doubt it. Has anyone realized that basically getting into the city probably WON'T be paid by a fare, which means, of course, that either (1) More drivers will wait for rides from the airport thus reducing available cabs in NYC and (2) This is effectively about a 5-10% cut in pay, as going in and leaving empty will cost you probably $8, which won't be covered by a rider. On a day where you only make $80, that is 10%, on a day that you make 160 that is 5%. Either way, it is a direct tax on the driver, since there is no way to pass that tax on, unlike a delivery truck or services company.

At least we won't be collecting the dollar surcharge
