Advice: Should I lease my Medallion directly?
Hi everyone, Looking for some advice. I currently own a medallion (used to drive for many years) and have now been leasing it to a private company. I am wondering about leasing it myself directly. Is this a smart thing to do? What is involved? Looking for some advice from someone that has done it before. My medallion is unrestricted so i can give it for two shifts. Looking forward to hearing from you guys....

Well if you are young enough to deal with the headaches and crazy drivers then do it. I would just let someone else deal with it and give them a % cause you just tax deduct the % paid, and go on with your life with no rope on your neck.

If you can find someone reliable together with buying insurance and other costs involved sure you can lease them yourself and save some money. I am willing to lease, if you give me a decent quote per month. email me raj10309@yahoo.com

Re: Advice: Should I lease my Medallion directly?
Hi Jacob,
I'm a Medallion owner. I could definitely give you some advice. You have 2 choices:
1. If you lease it out yourself (Individual Medallion):
- You MUST drive 9 hour shift for 210 days out of the year
- Insurance will cost you about $660-$700 a month (if you have a good record on your license)
- Workers Compensation about $3200 a year
- Rate card $1410 per year
- Maintenance on vehicle estimated amount $500 a month
- Gps system $60 per month
- Tax Stamp $1000 per year
- Car Payment (whatever you decide if you'll pay off in full or finance)
- Registration
- Loan payment ( if you still owe money on the medallion)
- The biggest headache is finding a good Partner driver!!!
If you can really deal with all this and drive too then its work doing it because towards the end of the year you can make a ton of money. At least around $50,000 - $80,000 if you know what you are doing.
Also, for individual medallion owners can't lease out the car for both shift because owner MUST drive and NO choice. TLC will question you if they dont see you login in at least the minimum requirements.
2. If you decide to lease it out to Broker: - you don't to worry about anything besides getting a check monthly from the broker.
But I can guarantee you that you won't make much money.
Ok here are most of the detail that I broke it down for you. Hopefully you'll make the best decision out of this. Good Luck and if you have any other question, feel free to ask.

Also forgot to tell you. Even though it is unrestricted and its individual medallion owner that's still a problem giving it for 2 shift and you're not driving it. Because currently I own mini fleet and my father has the individual medallion (unrestricted) he also isn't allowed to lease it out to people. Only brokers could do that because TLC gave the brokers the right to do that and not the owners.
