I am looking to purchase a Medallion/Car. Any information including secure brokers and process of obtaining one will be greatly appreciated.

Come up with at least 61K, then go to a broker that has a TLC license. Some of the larger ones are Pearland/All Taxi, Westway, and Omega. They are all legitimate, and won't rip you off.

Get on the list, then when they call you, if you agree to the price, its yours. We use Pearland, and Keegan is the one there that handles Medallion Sales. You just have to be approved for the loan, get the closings (one for bank, one for TLC), get the car, get it hacked up, and get to work......for the next 20 years or so. But usually, the price to own the car weekly is about the same to lease it, and you build equity in doing so. The reason is because as an individual owner your insurance is cheaper, you could waive Workmans compensation Insurance, and you get to keep the car 5 years instead of 3 like the garages.

Don't be surprised if they don't. In this era of high medallion prices, they will probably be willing to pay the full brokers fees, to ensure that they find willing buyers at 525k. More than likely you are hoping to find someone here who either doesn't know the true market value for their medallion, or is willing to knock some off since maybe you think you can save some money w/o a middleman. But since it is so easy to find out the true value, and since brokers fees are so little to someone who is about to sell a 525k medallion, why would they want to waste time with someone who wants to cut into their profit, when they can very easily find willing buyers in return for a few more pennies.

But good luck to you. And form a corporation to buy the individual medallion- it is only like 150 at the NYS DEpt of State. Although you don't realize it, that $150 you pay will save you THOUSANDS later in protecting your assets, creating a 401k for yourself and family members, and if you ever do a "Like Kind transfer" into a minifleet medallion.
